Branding

Branding sets the colours, logos and assistant name people see in the app, plus the address they sign in on. This guide covers the Custom Branding add-on, a branded sign-in address, a WhatsApp number for the organisation, and saving a light theme and a dark theme.

What branding changes

Branding is how the app looks and what the assistant is called, for everyone in the organisation. It does not change what Centrus knows, which model it uses, or who can see a document. Those sit on AI Model, Tags and Upload files.

With Custom Branding on, an admin can set all of the following. Each one is covered in its own section below.

  • A sign-in address on app.centrus.ai, such as meridian.app.centrus.ai, so people arrive on your colours and your assistant name.
  • A WhatsApp number for the organisation, with a profile picture sent as part of the request. Until that number is Live, people keep using the shared Centrus number. See WhatsApp.
  • AI name, the name Centrus uses for itself in chat and in agents. Empty, it stays Centrus.
  • Help Centre email, an address that receives a copy of support tickets raised in the app.
  • Primary colour and Secondary colour for buttons, highlights and the Help Centre article banner. They do not colour the sidebar.
  • The sidebar: its background, the selected and hover items, the logos, their sizes, and the text colours for the menu and the signed-in person.

Light mode and Dark mode each keep their own logo and colours. The assistant name, the help email, the sign-in address and the WhatsApp request are shared. A person's own light or dark preference, on the Account tab, only chooses which of those two sets they see. It does not edit the colours. See Profile and sign-in.

The Custom Branding add-on

The Branding tab is on Settings for every admin. Without the Custom Branding add-on, the tab does not show the controls. It shows a single card.

Custom Branding add-on required

Purchase the add-on to use branding controls for your organisation.

1
Go to Billing2
  1. 1The card that replaces the branding controls.
  2. 2Go to Billing opens Settings, Billing, where the add-on is bought.

The heading is Custom Branding add-on required. The line under it tells you to purchase the add-on before the branding controls are available for the organisation. Go to Billing opens the Billing tab. How to add it, and what happens to the charge, is covered in Add-ons.

Buying the add-on turns branding on for the organisation. The next time an admin opens Branding, the controls are there: domains, WhatsApp, general settings, colours, logos and the preview. People who are not admins never see this tab, whether the add-on is on or not. Opening the address sends them back to their usual page.

The colours, logos and assistant name only take effect in the app once branding is on for the organisation, which is what the purchase does. Saving values while the card above is showing is not possible, because the controls are not on the page.

Open the Branding tab

Open Settings from the left menu. The page title is Settings and the line under it is Update your account details, on every Settings tab. Along the top are Account, Billing, Branding, AI Model, Tags, Lessons, Teams, Reports and Organisation. Click Branding.

  5. 5Discard and Apply changes. Both stay faded until something on the page differs from what is saved.

The heading under the tabs is Branding, with Upload your organisation logo and choose the sidebar colour. The page opens on Light mode. Domains and General settings start open. WhatsApp Branding, Brand colours, Sidebar appearance, Logos and Text colours start closed. Click a heading to open or close it. Preview stays on the right on a wide screen, with Discard and Apply changes under it, and drops below the cards on a narrow screen.

Register a sign-in address

Domains asks for a branded sign-in address for the organisation. You do not point your own website at Centrus, and the page does not show DNS records. You choose the first part of an address that ends in .app.centrus.ai. Meridian FM would ask for meridian.app.centrus.ai. Centrus sets that address up, then emails you when people can use it.

  1. 1Open Domains. The box placeholder is companyname. The menu beside it only offers .app.centrus.ai.
  2. 2Type the first part of the address. The page forces it to lower case as you type. Full domain preview shows the whole address, for example meridian.app.centrus.ai. Before you type anything, the preview reads your-subdomain.app.centrus.ai.
  3. 3Click Submit request. The button stays off until the box has something in it.
  4. 4The page confirms Domain request submitted. We'll email you when it's live. The new row appears under Registered domains, and the box is cleared.

  1. 1The host box and the .app.centrus.ai ending. Both are faded once a request is in.
  2. 2Submit request, also faded, so a second address cannot be sent yet.
  3. 3Full domain preview. After the box is cleared it falls back to your-subdomain.app.centrus.ai.
  4. 4The row: the address, Inactive because it is not live yet, the status pending, and Remove.
  5. 5The reminder that the organisation can have one active or pending address at a time.

The host can use lower case letters, numbers and hyphens, and it cannot start or end with a hyphen. It can be up to 63 characters. If you leave the box empty and the button is pressed anyway, the page says Enter a subdomain. If the host breaks the rule, it says Use lowercase letters, numbers, hyphens; cannot start/end with hyphen. Anything else the server refuses, such as an ending it does not allow, shows Failed to add domain or the server's own message, such as Invalid domain suffix or You already have a pending or live domain.

Registered domains lists every address for the organisation. An empty list says No domains yet. If the list cannot be loaded, the page says Failed to load domains. Each row shows the address, then any of these badges:

  • Primary, when that address is the one Centrus prefers for sign-in links.
  • Inactive, when the address is not switched on yet. A new request is inactive.
  • The status word itself, in lower case. A new request is pending. Once Centrus has finished setting it up, the status is live.

You can have one address that is pending or live. While one is either, the host box and Submit request stay off, and the page says You can have one active or pending domain at a time. Remove deletes a row that is not live, then says Domain removed. On a live row, Remove is switched off. If the deletion fails, the page says Failed to remove domain.

People can sign in on the address only once it is live and active. The sign-in page then uses your Primary colour for the Welcome back heading and the Sign in button, and the line under the heading becomes Sign in to your Meridian account, using whatever AI name you saved. The browser tab title is that name too. Don't have an account? Sign up is hidden on a branded address, so new people are not offered a separate signup there. Someone who signs in successfully but does not belong to the organisation is signed straight back out, with You are not a member of this organisation.

Request a branded WhatsApp number

WhatsApp Branding is how the organisation asks for its own WhatsApp number, with a profile picture. It is separate from the WhatsApp card on Integrations, which is where people see the number they should message. This card starts closed. Open it from the heading.

The introduction says you can get a branded WhatsApp number for your organisation with a custom profile picture. The picture is part of the request. Centrus sets the number up and uses that picture on the WhatsApp profile, then emails you. The page does not publish the number by itself.

  1. 1Under Profile Picture, click Upload Picture. The note under the button says Upload a square image (PNG, JPG, or JPEG) up to 5MB. A file that is not an image is refused with Please upload an image file. A file over 5 MB is refused with Maximum file size is 5MB.
  2. 2The picture appears as a circle, with Remove beside it. Remove clears it from this page. It is not sent until you request the number.
  3. 3Check Status. Before any request it is None, with No request submitted.
  4. 4Click Request WhatsApp Number. If there is no picture, the page says Please upload a profile picture first and the button stays off.

A successful request says WhatsApp branding request submitted! We'll email you when your number is ready. The same promise sits under the button: We'll email you when your branded WhatsApp number is ready. The status then moves on its own. You do not type the number in.

  • None, with No request submitted. The button is available once a picture is uploaded.
  • Pending, in amber, with Request submitted, setting up your number... The button is off. A second request is refused with You already have a pending or live WhatsApp branding request.
  • Live, in green, with WhatsApp number active: and the number. The button stays off. The Integrations WhatsApp card, and chat, then use this number instead of the shared Centrus number +44 7462 836662.
  • Rejected, in red, with Request rejected, please contact support. The button can be used again, with a picture, to send another request.

  2. 2Request WhatsApp Number stays off while the status is Live or Pending.

The number on Integrations is shown only when branding is on for the organisation and the status is Live. Pending, Rejected and None all leave the shared Centrus number in place. If the request itself fails because branding is not on, the page says Organization must have branding enabled to request WhatsApp branding. That only happens if the tab was opened without the purchase having turned branding on. How people message the number is in WhatsApp.

We'll send a copy of Help Centre support tickets to this address.

  1. 1AI name, up to 40 characters. Meridian is what chat will call itself.
  2. 2Help Centre email. A copy of each support ticket is sent here.

AI name is the assistant's name across the app and in prompts. The placeholder is Centrus, and that is the name used when the box is empty. The limit is 40 characters. Reset shows once the box has anything in it, and clears it back to empty, which means Centrus again after you apply.

Once branding is on and the name is saved, chat and agents introduce themselves by that name, for your organisation. Sarah Price asking a question in web chat is answered by Meridian, not by the word Centrus. The same name is used when an agent runs. On the branded sign-in address, the heading's second line and the browser tab use it too.

Two quieter effects are worth knowing. In the app's Help Centre, article titles and article text swap the word Centrus for this name. Addresses that contain centrus.ai are left alone. And when branding is on and an AI name is saved, the Help Centre hides the Videos tab. Articles, Prompts and Support stay.

Help Centre email receives a copy of support tickets raised from Help Centre, Support. The placeholder is support@yourcompany.com. The page lower-cases the address as you type, and it can be up to 254 characters. Reset clears it. The ticket still goes to the Centrus team either way. This address is only the copy. Leave it empty if nobody in the organisation needs one.

Choose the brand colours

Open Brand colours. The note under the heading says these apply across the app theme (buttons, highlights, charts), and that they do not apply to the sidebar. The sidebar has its own card, next.

  1. 1Primary colour. Buttons, the sign-in heading and the Help Centre banner use this.
  2. 2Secondary colour. The Help Centre article banner blends it with the primary colour.

Each row is a colour swatch, a box for the hex value, and Reset once a value is set. Click the swatch to pick a colour, or type a hex value such as #0E3B2E. Reset clears that colour. The empty placeholders are #041B70 for Primary colour and #2B9CE5 for Secondary colour, which are the standard Centrus navy and blue. They are hints, not saved values. An empty colour means the app uses those standard colours again.

After you apply, and once branding is on, the primary colour is used on buttons and on the Welcome back heading of a branded sign-in page. The Help Centre article banner blends the primary and secondary colours, and outlines the article tag in the secondary colour. Dark mode uses the dark pair when you have set them. If a dark colour is empty, dark mode keeps the light one. The swatch updates the Preview straight away. The rest of the app changes when you click Apply changes.

Sidebar appearance is the menu people see on the left, and the bar that replaces it on a phone. The first control has no label of its own. It is the sidebar background: a swatch, a hex box and Reset. The placeholder is #041B70. The line under it says We recommend a colour with strong contrast against white text.

  2. 2Toggle icon, the arrow on the round button that collapses the menu. Toggle background is the circle behind it.
  3. 3Selected item colour, the background of the menu item you are on.

Under that are four more colours, in two pairs. Each is a swatch, a hex box and Reset.

  • Toggle background and Toggle icon. These colour the round button that collapses the sidebar. The placeholders are #e5f0ff and #041B70.
  • Selected item colour, described as Background for the active menu item. Placeholder #123ABC.
  • Hover item colour, described as Background when hovering menu items. Placeholder #456DEF.

On a phone, the sidebar is a header bar in the sidebar colour, with the collapsed logo (or the full logo if you have not uploaded a collapsed one), the person's photo and a menu button. Opening the menu uses the same background, selected colour and text colours as the desktop sidebar.

If you only fill in Light mode, Dark mode keeps those light colours. The preview on the Dark mode tab is less faithful when a field is empty: an empty sidebar there is drawn near black, while the real menu keeps the light colour. Trust the applied menu, or set the dark colours explicitly, rather than the empty dark preview.

Add the logos

Logos holds two pictures. Sidebar logo is the wide mark at the top of the open menu. Collapsed icon is the small mark when the menu is collapsed, and the one the phone header prefers. Each has a size slider beside it.

  2. 2Logo size, from 40 to 120 pixels. 80 is the starting size.
  3. 3Collapsed icon, used when the menu is narrow and on the phone header.

Before a file is chosen, Sidebar logo shows Upload logo, and Collapsed icon shows Upload collapsed icon. The line under the sidebar logo says PNG/JPG/SVG, up to 5MB. The collapsed icon uses the same checks, even though that line is not repeated under it. A file that is not an image gets Please upload an image file. Over 5 MB gets Maximum file size is 5MB.

The upload is only a preview until you click Apply changes. Remove on either logo clears that preview. It is not deleted from the live menu until you apply.

  • Logo size runs from 40 to 120. The number above the slider is in pixels, and it starts at 80px when nothing has been saved. Reset puts the slider back to the last saved size, not to 80, once you have applied a different size.
  • Collapsed logo size runs from 16 to 48, and starts at 28px. Reset works the same way.

After you apply, the open menu uses the sidebar logo at that height. The collapsed menu and the phone header use the collapsed icon, falling back to the sidebar logo if you only uploaded one. Once someone is signed in, the browser tab icon prefers the collapsed icon, then the sidebar logo. On the branded sign-in page, before anyone is signed in, the tab icon uses the sidebar logo.

Dark mode has its own two files and its own two sizes. If the dark logo is empty, dark mode shows the light logo. Upload a light-on-dark mark for Dark mode if the light logo disappears on a dark menu.

Set the text colours

Text colours are the words on the sidebar, not the brand colours and not the sidebar background. Five rows, each a swatch, a hex box and Reset.

  1. 1Menu text (default), used for menu items that are not selected, and for Log out.
  2. 2User name, the signed-in person's name at the bottom of the menu. User role is the line under it, which is their position.
  • Menu text (default). Placeholder #d1d5db. This is also the colour of Log out when the pointer is not on it.
  • Selected item text. Placeholder #ffffff. The words on the menu item you are on.
  • Hover item text. Placeholder #ffffff. The words while the pointer is over another item, and over Log out.
  • User name. Placeholder #ffffff. The signed-in person's name.
  • User role. Placeholder #d1d5db. Their position, from their profile, such as Operations director.

Leave a row empty to keep the standard colour: pale grey for ordinary menu text and for the position, white for the selected item, the hover item and the name. On a dark green sidebar, pale text is what keeps the menu readable, which is why the sidebar card asks for contrast against white text. If you set a light sidebar, switch these towards a dark colour before you apply, and check the preview first.

Read the preview

Preview sits to the right of the cards on a wide screen, and under them on a narrow one. It redraws as you change the theme you are editing. It does not change the live menu. That waits for Apply changes.

  2. 2Selected item, in Selected item colour with Selected item text.
  3. 3The collapsed menu: the collapsed icon, the toggle button, and the avatar only.

The wide column is the open sidebar. If you have not uploaded a logo, it says Your Logo. The three rows are fixed labels, Default item, Hover item and Selected item, so you can compare the three states without hovering. The narrow column is the collapsed menu. With no collapsed icon it says Icon.

The name and role in the preview are always John Smith and CEO. They are sample text, not the person who is signed in. On the real menu those lines are the signed-in person and their position. John Martin, Operations director, is what Meridian's menu shows for him. The colours on those two lines are still yours: User name and User role.

With nothing chosen, the light preview uses navy #041B70, pale menu text, a blue hover and a brighter blue selected item. The dark preview, while its fields are empty, uses a near-black sidebar instead. As soon as you pick a colour or a logo, the preview follows the pickers. Logo size in the preview follows the slider.

Apply the theme, or discard it

Nothing on the colour, logo, name or email cards is saved as you type. Uploading a logo, moving a slider and picking a colour only update the preview. Domains and Request WhatsApp Number are the exceptions: those buttons send straight away.

Apply changes and Discard sit under the preview. Both are off until the page differs from what is saved. Apply changes writes the theme you are looking at, plus AI name and Help Centre email. Switch to the other theme and apply again if both should change. A successful save shows a notice titled Updated.

  1. 1Edit Light mode: colours, logos, sizes and text colours. Set AI name and Help Centre email here too, if you want them.
  2. 2Check Preview, then click Apply changes. Wait for Updated.
  3. 3Click Dark mode. The pickers load whatever is saved for dark, which may be empty even after the light theme is done.
  4. 4Set the dark logo and colours, check the preview, and click Apply changes again.

Discard puts back the logo, the logo sizes, the sidebar colours, the text colours, the assistant name, the help email and the WhatsApp picture to what was loaded for this theme. It does not put Primary colour or Secondary colour back. If you had changed those and then click Discard, they stay as you left them, and Apply changes can remain available because of them. Use Reset on each brand colour to clear it, then apply if you want the standard Centrus colours again.

Reset on a colour, on AI name or on Help Centre email clears that field. Reset on a size slider returns it to the last saved size. Clearing a colour and applying removes it, so the app falls back to the standard colour for that part of the theme.

If you have just uploaded a WhatsApp picture, finish with Request WhatsApp Number rather than relying on Apply changes to store it. Apply changes can then report an error even though the colours were saved. Reload the page and check the menu before you edit again.

Any other failure says Something went wrong, or the message the server returned. Reload the page to see what was actually stored.
