What it does

Google Calendar connects Centrus chat to the Google account you sign in with. Once it is connected, you can ask what is on tomorrow, what a week looks like, and where a free hour sits. Centrus reads that from Google Calendar while you wait. It can also book a meeting, move one, cancel one, list the calendars on the account, and choose which calendar later questions use. A new event is a real event on that Google account. Guests you name by email address are notified by Google.

Anyone in the organisation can connect. There is no shared organisation sign-in and no Enable step for a colleague: Sarah Price's calendar is not available in John Martin's chat, and the other way around. This card stores one Google account. While it reads Connected, the button is Disconnect, so a different account means disconnect first and sign in again. That replaces the saved sign-in. There is no second slot, and no Add another account. Signing in here is for chat. Agent Builder has no Google Calendar step, so there is nothing on an agent to connect, and this card does not create one. Gmail is a separate card with its own Google sign-in, covered in Gmail in chat. The wider picture of how connections differ is in the Integrations overview.

Before you start

  • A Google account you can sign in to. Google Calendar in chat is per person. Any Centrus user can click Connect. It is not reserved for administrators. Use the account whose diary Centrus should read and book into. Centrus only sees the account you pick on Google's page.
  • Permission, from Google, for that account. Centrus asks to view and edit events on all the calendars that account can open, to see and download any calendar it can access, to see the list of calendars it is subscribed to, and to see the email address on the Google account. Google is the place that grants or refuses that. The edit permission covers creating, moving and deleting events. It is wider than the one calendar named on the card.
  • A few minutes at the screen. The sign-in link Centrus creates expires after 10 minutes. If you leave the Google page and come back later, start again from Connect.

Your own Google account

Any Centrus user signs in. There is no organisation key, and Connect is not reserved for an administrator.

Calendars that account can open

Centrus asks to view and edit events on all of them, not only the main calendar.

Ten minutes to finish

The sign-in link expires after 10 minutes. Start again from Connect if it does.

Where you sign in: Google’s own page, opened from Connect. Centrus does not ask you to type the password into Centrus.

You do not paste a password, a client secret or an API key into Centrus. Connect sends you to Google, you pick the account, and you click Allow. Centrus then stores the sign-in for your user only, encrypted, with the address Google returns so the card can show who you connected as.

Chat and Agent Builder stay separate here for a simple reason. Agent Builder has no Google Calendar step. Connecting on this card does not add one, and there is no agent connection to reuse. The card itself does not say that. A colleague who wants the diary in their own chat signs in on their own card.

Connect Google Calendar

  1. 1Open Integrations from the menu on the left and find the Google Calendar card. On a wide screen it sits with the custom integration tile and Simpro, and Gmail starts the next row.
  2. 2Click Connect. The button stays dull while Centrus asks Google for a sign-in address, then the same window goes to Google. It does not open a popup.
  3. 3On Google's page, pick the account. Centrus asks Google to show the account picker and the permission screen, including when you have allowed Calendar before.
  4. 4Click Allow. You have 10 minutes from the moment Centrus opened that page. You come back to Integrations. If Google accepted the sign-in, the card reads Connected, with a green line Connected as: and the address.

  2. 2The Google account Centrus will use. John Martin is signing in as john.martin@meridianfm.co.uk.
  3. 3The events permission. It covers view and edit on every calendar that account can open, so allow it only for an account you are happy for Centrus to change.
  4. 4Allow, which completes the sign-in. Cancel brings you back without connecting.

Centrus does not open the diary before saving. It exchanges the code Google returns for a token, reads your address from Google, and saves the connection against your user. The card then shows that address. There is no separate success notice: the badge changing to Connected is the confirmation. The return address can include calendar_connected=true, and the page does not explain that either.

If the sign-in does not complete, you land back on Integrations and the card stays Not Connected. The page does not show a message for these cases, so check the address bar if you are unsure why nothing changed:

  • calendar_error=missing_params: Google sent you back without a code, which is what happens if you cancel or refuse access.
  • calendar_error=invalid_state or calendar_error=missing_context: the return could not be tied to your Centrus user. Start again from Connect.
  • calendar_error=true: the sign-in link had expired (it lasts 10 minutes), the check on it failed, or Google refused the token. Click Connect and allow again.
  • Connect itself does nothing visible if Centrus cannot fetch the Google address. The button wakes up again and nothing is shown. Wait a moment and click it again.

Sign in with your own account

Google Calendar does not have an organisation connection for someone else to turn on. There is no Enable button, and no line that says the organisation is already connected. The card has two states for you. Not Connected means this Centrus user has no Google Calendar sign-in, and the buttons are Connect and How to Use. Connected means your sign-in is saved, the green line names the account, and the buttons are How to Use and Disconnect. Sarah Price, looking at the same page, still sees Not Connected until she signs in with her own Google account.

How to Use
  1. 1Connect. You still finish on Google's page.

The address on the card is the only Google account this chat can use. A second sign-in replaces the first, because this user has one saved row for Google Calendar. The connected card does not show Connect, so the way to switch accounts is Disconnect, then Connect with the other Google account. There is no picker of several saved accounts. The new sign-in stores the new address and drops any calendar you had chosen earlier. The refresh described under troubleshooting can also drop the green line while the badge still says Connected. If the green line has gone, disconnect and sign in again before you rely on which account is in use.

Ask your first questions

Open Chat, start a chat and ask the way you would ask a colleague. Google Calendar is available in every chat once the card says Connected for you. How to Use on the card lists the kinds of question the connection is meant for. The examples there use 2pm, 3pm and 9am, and one of them asks for a daily standup. The questions below use a facilities diary, with dates and the 24-hour clock. A daily repeat is not something these tools can create, which is covered under what you can ask.

While Centrus works, the panel above the answer names the step. Listing events shows as Checking your calendar. Free and busy shows as Checking availability in your calendar. Listing calendars shows as Finding your calendars. Choosing one shows as Choosing a calendar. Creating shows as Adding an event to your calendar. Moving or editing shows as Updating an event in your calendar. Cancelling shows as Removing an event from your calendar. When the answer is ready, the panel folds to Worked with the number of steps. Open it if you want to see what was looked up before the answer.

A question about tomorrow or next week needs a start and an end. Centrus is told to use London time, and when you say this week or next week it is told to show the Monday to Sunday range it used. Carry on in the same chat, with “Book the free hour at Riverside House and invite sarah.price@meridianfm.co.uk”, and it can use the slot you were just discussing. A guest is an email address. A name on its own is not enough for the invitation.

What you can ask

Centrus has 7 Google Calendar tools in chat, 3 that read and 4 that change something, and it picks from what you ask. You never choose a tool yourself. Every one is listed in the reference. They all use the same sign-in. You do not connect Gmail to read the diary, and connecting Gmail does not connect this card.

Tomorrow

“What is on my calendar tomorrow?”

“What is on Thursday 09/10/2026?”

A free hour

“Find a free hour with Sarah Price next week.”

“Am I free on 13/10/2026 at 10:00?”

Booking

“Book a site meeting at Riverside House, 13/10/2026, 10:00 to 11:00.”

Moving or cancelling

“Move the survey to 14:00.”

“Cancel the 15:00 Northgate call.”

  • A day or a range. Ask what is on tomorrow, on a date, or between two times. Listing needs a start and an end. Events come back earliest first. A repeating event already in Google Calendar is expanded into the single meetings inside that window. The call does not set a page size and does not ask for a second page, so you get the first page Google sends for that window. The usual calendar is the main one on the account, unless you have chosen another or you name one in the question.
  • Free and busy. Ask when you are free, or when a shared calendar has a gap. The check returns busy blocks, with a start and an end, for the calendars you name. It does not return a list of free hours: Centrus works the gap out from the busy blocks. If you do not name a calendar, it checks the one already chosen, or the main calendar. A colleague is a calendar id, usually their email address, and only when this account can see that calendar. Sarah Price's name is not looked up on its own.
  • Which calendar. Ask which calendars are on the account. You get the name, the id, and whether it is the main calendar. Ask to use a different one for later questions, for example the facilities calendar. That choice is stored on your connection. It does not change anything in Google. A later question can still name a different calendar for that one call.
  • Booking. Ask for a title, a start and an end. A description is optional. Guests are email addresses. Centrus is told to add the signed-in address as a guest as well, so you may receive Google's own invite to a meeting you just booked. There is no place field: put Riverside House in the title or the description. It will not show as the event location in Google Calendar. There is no repeat, so a daily standup becomes one event at the start and end you gave, not a series. There is no video meeting object. If you already have a link, it can go in the description.
  • Moving. Ask to change the title, the description, the start, the end or the guest list of an event already on the calendar. Centrus needs the event id from an earlier look-up in the chat. Name the title, the times and the guests again in the same request. An update sends only the details included on that call, and Google replaces the event with what was sent, so a time change on its own can clear the title or the guests.
  • Cancelling. Ask to cancel or remove an event. The usual instructions tell Centrus to ask you before it deletes. Creating and moving do not get that question. You cannot accept or decline an invitation from chat, and you cannot change notification settings. Centrus is told to give you the event link so you can respond in Google Calendar.

Centrus only sees calendars this Google account can open. A colleague who has not shared their calendar, or their free and busy time, is outside this connection. An availability check that comes back with no busy times can mean the person is free, or that their calendar was not visible. The empty result does not say which. Check with them before you book over it.

How to Use includes “Schedule team standup daily at 9am”. The create tool has a title, a description, a start, an end, guests and an optional calendar. It has no repeat. That question books a single event if Centrus picks one start and end. Say the date and the clock time when you want one meeting.

Making changes

Four of the 7 tools change something: creating an event, updating an event, deleting an event, and choosing the calendar later questions use. Creating shows as Adding an event to your calendar. Updating shows as Updating an event in your calendar. Deleting shows as Removing an event from your calendar. Choosing a calendar shows as Choosing a calendar. The first three ask Google to email every guest on the event. Choosing a calendar does not email anyone, and it does not change an event.

Centrus is not told to ask again before it creates or moves an event. The question you asked is the instruction. There is no approval button for those two. The usual instructions do tell it to ask before it deletes. If the booking matters, name the title, the date, the start, the end and each guest's email address, and open Google Calendar afterwards.

A new event is created on the calendar already chosen, or on the main calendar, unless you name another. The reply from that call is the event id. It does not include a link, so a link in the answer is only there if Centrus lists the event afterwards. Google is asked to notify every guest, including the signed-in address when Centrus adds it. Put the site in the title, such as Riverside House survey, because there is no location field. Include the date in the title when several surveys could share a name.

Some of these are awkward to undo from chat:

  • Creating can be undone by cancelling that event. There is no undo button. Until you cancel it, the event stays, and guests may already have the invite.
  • Updating replaces the event with the fields sent on that call. Centrus is not told to read the old event out and send it back in full. If you might lose the title or the guests, name them again with the new time. A refused call leaves the event as it was.
  • Cancelling removes the event. Google is asked to email the guests. The usual instructions ask you first. There is no restore tool in chat.
  • Choosing a calendar only changes which calendar later calls use when they do not name one. It does not move existing events. A new sign-in, and a refresh of the saved sign-in, can forget the choice and fall back to the main calendar.
  • A guest list is the list you send. Leaving someone off an update can drop them from the event. Centrus cannot mark them as accepted, declined or tentative.
  • A daily series is not created. How to Use mentions a standup every day at 9am. The tool books one pair of times.

There is no tool that books every meeting in one step, and no tool that writes a list already fetched from another system in a single pass. A request such as “book these three site meetings” is three creates, and Worked shows Adding an event to your calendar for each. For a diary you cannot afford to crowd, ask Centrus to read the day first. A change only happened if a tool step succeeded on this turn. If Worked has no Google Calendar step, the diary was not written, whatever the sentence sounds like.

Who can use it

Google Calendar has no screen for switching individual tools off. The Integrations overview describes that screen for BigChange REST and Simpro. It does not appear for Google Calendar, and teams have no Google Calendar tool list either. If your card says Connected, every Google Calendar tool is available in your chats. A colleague's card is their own sign-in, so they cannot use yours, and you cannot use theirs.

Nothing in Settings holds the booking back. When you ask for a new event or a new time, Centrus is told to do it, not to repeat the details and wait. The usual instructions do say to ask before a deletion. That question arrives in the chat, before Removing an event from your calendar appears under Worked. If an answer has already said the event was added or moved, and Worked shows the step, the change has been made. Say the title, the date and the clock time if more than one event would fit.

The extra detail on this card is How to Use, not a permissions grid. Open it any time. It lists viewing the schedule, scheduling events, modifying events, and calendar summaries, plus a short capability list and a connection status for the Google account and for calendar access. That list is shorter than the 7 tools: it does not mention listing calendars or choosing a default calendar, and Natural Language is not a separate tool. The connection status reads Connected and Ready once your sign-in is saved, and Not connected and Pending connection before that.

Limits

  • One account. The connected address is the only diary. Chat does not offer a picker of several saved Google accounts. Disconnect, then Connect, replaces this one. Agent Builder has no Google Calendar step to sign in separately.
  • The calendar used is the one you chose, or the main calendar when none is chosen. Naming a calendar on the question overrides that for the one call. A refresh of the saved sign-in can forget the choice.
  • Listing needs a start and an end. Events are earliest first. Repeating events already in Google are expanded into single meetings in the window. The call does not set a page size and does not ask for the next page.
  • Free and busy returns busy blocks only. A calendar this account cannot see can come back with no busy times, which is not the same as a free diary. A colleague has to be a calendar id this account can query, usually an email address they have shared.
  • Times are a timestamp on the event. The event is not given its own time zone. Centrus is told to default to London time, and the tool's own example is a UTC time ending in Z. In British Summer Time, 10:00 in the UK is 09:00 UTC. Say the clock time you want, and open the event in Google Calendar if the hour matters.
  • Guests are email addresses. Create, update and delete ask Google to email every guest on the event. Centrus is told not to promise a separate email of its own, and it is told to add the signed-in address as a guest when it books.
  • No location, no repeat, no video meeting, no RSVP. The site goes in the title or the description. A daily question books one event. A video link you already have can go in the description. Accepting an invite stays in Google Calendar.
  • An update sends only the fields on that call and replaces the event with them. Name the title, the times and the guests together when you move a meeting.
  • A cancellation is the change the usual instructions tell Centrus to check with you first. There is no restore tool.
  • The sign-in link lasts 10 minutes. Refreshing the saved sign-in can drop the address from the card even though the badge stays Connected.
  • The permission covers every calendar the account can open, not only the main one. Allow it for an account you are happy for Centrus to change.

How to Use
After Disconnect
  1. 1Disconnect, which removes your connection without asking you to confirm and without a notice.
  2. 2Connect, to sign in again. The card does not keep the previous address.

Disconnect does not visit Google to withdraw the permission. The grant can remain on the Google account until you remove Centrus there. How to Use says you can revoke access from your Google Account settings, and that is the step that does it. Because the permission covers events on every calendar that account can open, removing it there matters more than the card alone.

Other people are not affected. Sarah still has her own sign-in if she connected. To stop your chat from seeing the diary, Disconnect is enough. To stop Google from honouring the grant, remove it in the Google account as well. A new Connect replaces the saved sign-in for your user. It does not reconnect anyone else, and it does not add a Google Calendar step to an agent.

Troubleshooting

  • Centrus answers as though Google Calendar is not connected. Check the card says Connected for you, not only for a colleague. If it says Not Connected, click Connect. If it already says Connected, the tools are on. There is no place in Settings that switches them off one by one. The instructions Centrus follows sometimes say to enable Calendar. The control on the card is Connect.
  • You returned from Google and the card is still Not Connected. Look at the address bar for calendar_error. Cancel or a refused permission is missing_params. An expired or rejected sign-in is calendar_error=true. Click Connect and finish within 10 minutes.
  • Google Calendar not connected. The connection row is gone. Connect again from the card.
  • The card says Not Connected, but chat still tries Google Calendar and then fails. If Google rejects the saved sign-in, the card's check reports not connected and does not delete the stored row. Click Disconnect, then Connect if you still want the account.
  • The badge says Connected and the green line has gone. The sign-in was refreshed and the address was not kept. The chosen calendar is dropped at the same time, so later questions use the main calendar. Disconnect and connect again so the card shows the account you mean.
  • Connect seems to do nothing. Wait for the button to wake up, then click it once. If Centrus could not fetch the Google page, it does not tell you.
  • The hour is wrong. The event has no time zone of its own, and a timestamp ending in Z is UTC. Open the event in Google Calendar. Ask again with the clock time and the date, for example 13/10/2026 10:00 to 11:00.
  • Sarah looks free and she was not. The availability check can return no busy times when her calendar is not visible to this account. Ask her, or ask her to share free and busy with the connected account, before you book.
  • A moved meeting lost its title or its guests. The update replaced the event with the fields sent on that call. Book it again with the title, the times and every guest email, or restore them in Google Calendar.
  • Guests did not expect an email. Create, move and cancel ask Google to email every guest. Centrus is also told to add your own address when it books, so you may get that invite too.
  • You wanted a daily standup, a map pin, or a video meeting. Chat books one event. Put the site or a video link you already have in the title or the description. Accepting an invite stays in Google Calendar.
  • You wanted an agent to book the visit. Agent Builder has no Google Calendar step. Booking stays in chat.

I could not reach your calendar. Centrus returned Google Calendar not connected, which means this user has no saved sign-in. On Integrations, click Connect on Google Calendar and sign in again.

Tools and endpoints reference

There are 7 Google Calendar tools in chat: 3 read and 4 change something on the connected Google account. The names below are short names for the steps you see while Centrus works. Listing events shows as Checking your calendar. Free and busy shows as Checking availability in your calendar. Creating shows as Adding an event to your calendar. Updating shows as Updating an event in your calendar. Deleting shows as Removing an event from your calendar. Listing calendars shows as Finding your calendars. Choosing one shows as Choosing a calendar. Calendar calls go to the Google Calendar API at https://www.googleapis.com/calendar/v3. Where a path contains {calendarId}, Centrus uses the calendar you named, the one chosen earlier, or primary for the main calendar. {eventId} is the id from an earlier list or from the create.
